Below are some key links for assessing issues and
candidates from a Christian perspective.
Christian
Voting Principles
“When
the righteous rule, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people
groan.”, Proverbs 29:2. Christians
need to be good citizens and salt to the world, which in the
US
involves voting for godly representatives.
Salt is a preservative. If
Christians do not vote Christian, how are our Christian principles to be
preserved! John Jay, the original
Chief-Justice of the US Supreme Court, said: “
Providence
has given to our people the choice of their rulers.
It is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian
nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”
The
following table provides key indicators on Christian principles.
The bottom table provides several sources of information to help you
determine where candidates stand. FYI
– Churches can officially lobby for issues as long as the effort is less than
5% of their overall ministry, and can promote voting as long as specific
candidates or parties are not endorsed. Note
that church members and staff are free of these restrictions if they only
represent themselves as private citizens.

Opposing
Non-Christian Viewpoint Typically Advocated
|
Thou
shall not murder.
|
Supportive
of pro-choice, pro-abortion, embryonic research, and euthanasia.
|
Homosexual
behavior is wrong.
|
Legitimizes
homosexual behavior; e.g. same-sex marriages, special legal protection via
preferential hate crime and anti-discrimination laws.
|
The
sanctity of marriage. Pro-Family.
|
Lack
of action to reduce divorce rates, adulterous behaviors, premarital sex, or
pornography. Against Federal
Marriage Amendment.
|
Gambling
is wrong and is not a wise use of resources you are blessed with.
|
Legitimizes,
expands, and promotes gambling.
|
Our
government was founded by Christians using Christian principles, and overtly
encouraged Christianity until 1962. We
need to return to God’s principles.
|
Clear
separation of church and state. The
US
is a melting pot of beliefs, none of which
should be encouraged by government except evolution and humanism, (both of
which meet the definition of religion).
Prayer and the 10 Commandments should not be allowed in schools.
|
God’s
ways are eternal, which are also the basis for our Constitution.
|
Our
state and federal constitutions are an ever changing set of principles, open
to new or liberal interpretations by judges.
|
Creationism,
which science has proven to be valid via intelligent design evidence.
|
That
evolution is fact, (vs. acknowledging that evolution is a theory, that many
observations that do not fit the theory, and the numerous frauds).
|
Even
the best of us still have a sinful nature and fall short.
God has provided the Bible so that one can learn wisdom and “be
thoroughly equipped for every good work”.
|
Government
knows best; e.g. advocating increasing the size of government and
regulations, supporting UN new world order initiatives, against school
vouchers and gun ownership. Tolerance, leniency, and more governmental
programs to treat the symptoms than the causes, more social programs without
conditions and accountability.
